What Is Civilization?

That’s the real question. What characterizes civilization or a civilized society? If (or maybe when) some cataclysmic event occurs that completely destroys our current society, what would it take to rebuild it? Could we rebuild? Would we want to?

It could happen. I suspect that Roman citizens of, say, 50 B.C. probably thought that the Roman Empire would last forever – and we know how that turned out.

This site is dedicated to on-going discussions about the questions above as well as related subjects such as what we might do differently if we had to start over and how we would survive during the process.

These discussions must be civil (no pun intended) – no name-calling, no profanity, no hate, no belittling of others, no personal attacks. All points of view are welcome here as long as they are presented in a serious, cordial manner. You must sign up as a subscriber to participate (make comments on posts or other comments).
